Em estreia absoluta nos Açores, temos o privilégio de apresentar os dois mais recentes filmes da realizadora Cláudia Varejão, Haverá eleições (2025) e Kora (2024). São obras que tratam de temas urgentes e necessários para uma reflexão sobre os tempos conturbados que vivemos.
Liberdade e democracia estão no cerne de Haverá eleições. O filme revisita, por meio de imagens de arquivo e de testemunhos, os principais momentos do dia 25 de abril de 1975, quando a população adulta portuguesa exerceu, pela primeira vez e de forma democrática, o seu direito ao voto. Cerca de 92% dos eleitores recenseados compareceram às urnas, taxa que jamais foi superada até aos dias de hoje.
Kora fala sobre mulheres refugiadas que vivem em Portugal. A partir das fotografias que as protagonistas trazem consigo, emergem fragmentos íntimos de vidas em reconstrução, numa escuta atenta e delicada de Cláudia Varejão. O filme é descrito pela crítica como ‘um manifesto contra a guerra e a discriminação das mulheres’.
O Cinema de Autor é uma categoria de produção cinematográfica que valoriza, acima de tudo, a visão e expressão artística do autor, com respeito pela sua liberdade criativa.
O FUSO INSULAR está empenhado em promover o Cinema de Autor, ao convidar os artistas responsáveis pela componente teórica do programa de residência criativa – Laboratório Imagem em Movimento, a apresentarem os seus filmes ao público açoriano.
O Cinema de Autor encerra a programação do FUSO INSULAR, em sessão especial na Black Box do Arquipélago – Centro de Artes Contemporâneas.
HAVERÁ ELEIÇÕES – Cláudia Varejão (2025, 35′)
A 25 de Abril de 1975 dão-se as primeiras eleições livres em Portugal. Cerca de 92% dos eleitores recenseados compareceram às urnas, taxa que jamais foi superada até aos dias de hoje.
A noite das eleições teve o seu Centro de Escrutínio na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, enquanto a televisão emitia em directo a contagem dos votos.
Este filme revisita as eleições através das imagens produzidas durante a noite e de testemunhos de quem viveu este momento histórico.
Realizado no âmbito da exposição Haverá Eleições. 1975: as primeiras eleições livres em Portugal, uma iniciativa da Comissão Comemorativa 50 Anos 25 de Abril, em parceria com a Assembleia da República, com o apoio da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e da RTP.
KORA – Cláudia Varejão (2024, 30′)
KORA traça a silhueta de mulheres refugiadas a viver em Portugal. Em comum entre si, trazem o passado no corpo e nas palavras, bem como aqueles que amam impressos em retratos. A partir dessas memórias, acedemos ao olhar íntimo e político de quem reconstrói o (seu) presente.

For the very first time in the Azores, we have the privilege of presenting the two most recent films by director Cláudia Varejão, Haverá eleições (2025) and Kora (2024). These works address urgent and necessary themes for reflecting on the troubled times we are living through.
Haverá eleições (There will be elections) deals with freedom and democracy. The film revisits, through archival footage and testimonies, the key moments of April 25, 1975, when the adult Portuguese population exercised their right to vote democratically for the very first time. Around 92% of registered voters went to the polls, a turnout rate that has never since been surpassed.
Kora outlines the stories of refugee women living in Portugal, who carry their past in their bodies and words, and their loved ones in the form of photographs. Through Cláudia Varejão’s gentle gathering of their memories, we are offered a glimpse into these women’s private lives as they reconstruct the(ir) present, cherished photographs anchoring their uncertain existence.
Author Cinema is a category of film production that values, above all, the vision and artistic expression of the author. One of its distinctive features is respect for the author’s creative freedom.
FUSO INSULAR is committed to promoting author cinema by inviting the artists responsible for the theoretical component of the creative residency program – Laboratório Imagem em Movimento – to present their films to the Azorean public.
Author Cinema closes the FUSO INSULAR program with a special screening in the Black Box of the Arquipélago – Centro de Artes Contemporâneas.
THERE WILL BE ELLECTIONS – Cláudia Varejão (2025, 35′)
The first free elections in Portugal took place on 25 April 1975. Around 92 per cent of registered voters turned up to vote, a rate that has never been exceeded to this day.
On election night, the Counting Center was located at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, while television broadcast the vote count live.
This film revisits the elections through images produced during the night and testimonies from those who lived through this historic moment.
Produced as part of the exhibition There Will Be Elections. 1975: the first free elections in Portugal, an initiative of the 50 Years of April 25 Commemorative Commission, in partnership with the Assembly of the Republic, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and RTP.
KORA – Cláudia Varejão (2024, 30′)
KORA outlines the stories of refugee women living in Portugal. They all carry their past in their body and words, as well as their loved ones in portraits. From these memories we access the intimate and political gaze of those who reconstruct (their) present.
