Uma banda de música desfila por uma encruzilhada.
Valendo-se de aspectos de performance, pintura, videoarte e arte sonora, a obra explora a dinâmica entre repetição e variação, ao levantar questões sobre conflitos socioculturais.
Repúblicas Mínimas 7 (Espanha, 2016, 1:23) – Rubén Martín de Lucas
Repúblicas Mínimas Repúblicas Mínimas é um conjunto de “microestados” cujo limite responde a um critério artificial (a geometria), têm uma área constante (100 m2), uma duração que nunca ultrapassa as 24 horas e um único habitante -o próprio artista. Alguns estados são ridículos e absurdos. Alguns fragmentos de território dos quais o artista se apropria, geralmente sem permissão, no máximo por um dia. A documentação destas ações, sob a forma de fotografias e vídeos aéreos, convida-nos a refletir sobre o caráter artificial e efémero de todas as fronteiras e sobre o sentimento de pertença que a humanidade exerce sobre uma Terra que, no entanto, nos transcende em idade. Microestado de 100m2, 1 habitante e 1 dia de duração realizado sem autorização num campo de colheita de cereais nas coordenadas 40.7654770, -2.9947316. Planta em forma de quadrado, e 10m de cada lado. Fronteira construída com tapete azul a partir de materiais residuais.

David Van Tieghem toca as ruas de Nova Iorque com um abandono imprudente. O som que se ouve é exatamente como aconteceu.
Les Antilopes (França/Portugal, 2020, 8:00) – Maxime Martinot
“Um dia, nas costas de Marrocos, há cento e cinquenta anos, milhares de antílopes atiraram-se ao mar em conjunto.” – Marguerite Duras

Microestado de 100m2, 1 habitante e 5 horas e meia de duração realizada numa praia durante a subida da maré. Coordenadas 43.399488, -4.358119. Planta em forma de círculo com raio de 5,64m. Fronteira construída com pedras locais.
Atlas (Brasil, 2012, 6:12) – Magda Gebhardt
Magda, tal como Atlas, carrega o mundo às costas, presa numa performance de construção e destruição de paisagens, cujas referências de espaço e tempo são continuamente redefinidas. A obra de Magda Gebhardt permite uma analogia entre paisagem e imagem, duascriações humanas cujos artifícios conduzem à sua própria criação. É assim que a artista ganha proeminência, no papel daquela que olha e observa -um lugar a partir do qual se organizam e se distribuem as visões do mundo.

O desenho que se estende para além do papel, delineando o mundo real.
Round and About (EUA, 1979-80, 4:45) – Gary Hill
Around & About surgiu de um cenário ‘e se’. E se eu cortasse imagens para cada sílaba de um texto falado? (Uma maneira de me manter ocupado?) Uma tarefa assustadora na época das máquinas U-matic e controladores desajeitados. Fiz tudo manualmente, a pressionar o botão de corte da edição para cada sílaba. A cada retrocesso, eu ouvia e antecipava a próxima sílaba, aprendendo à medida que avançava de modo a ajustar reacções atrasadas. Aprendi rapidamente – cada ‘erro’ era um passo à frente e um ou mais para trás. Rapidamente escrevi – quase poderia dizer rabisquei – um texto, movido pelo rompimento de um relacionamento pessoal, mas mais precisamente direccionado a um outro abstracto; ou seja, alguém com quem o espectador poderia se identificar.
Decision of No Return or A sense of territory (Alemanha/Espanha, 2017, 8:08) – Christina Schultz
Uma história que segue as características da melhor narrativa policial apenas para configurar as novas e velhas relações entre a Grã-Bretanha e a Europa, do ponto de vista dos próprios heróis de infância da artista. Uma história de detectives protagonizada pelos mais famosos investigadores britânicos: Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, Os Cinco, James Bond, John Steed e Emma Peel, e Monsieur Poirot, onde todos representam a Inglaterra.

A história de um monstro que, movendo-se a uma enorme velocidade, devora tudo o que encontra pelo caminho: pessoas, animais, carros, edifícios.

Cruzada (Brazil, 2010, 8:36) – Cinthia Marcelle
Sixteen musicians come from the four extremities of a cross, 4 from each side, wearing 4 colors: yellow, red, blue and green. The four groups (one with the ride cymbals, one with the snare and bass drums, one with the trumpets and trombones and one with the baritone saxhorns and tubas) each one at a time, come into action, playing the sounds in a chaotic way until they’ve reached the crossing point of the cross. When they all meet, face to face, they begin a duel, which ends up in a choreography where the musicians exchange places, forming then four music bands of colors and mixedinstruments. At the sound of the same song finally in harmony, the musicians leave the crossing point, each one at a time and spread around, through the four ways of the cross.

Minimal Republics is a set of «microstates» whose limit responds to an artificial criterion, geometry, have a constant area, 100 m2, a duration that never exceeds 24 hours and a single inhabitant, the artist himself.Some ridiculous and absurd states. A few fragments of territory that the artist appropriates, usually without permission, for a maximumof one day. The documentation of these actions, in the form of aerial photographs and overhead videos, invites us to reflect on the artificial and ephemeral nature of all borders and on the feeling of ownership that humanity exercises towards over an Earth that, however, transcends us in age.Microstate of 100m2, 1 inhabitant and 1 day duration carried out without permission in a field of harvested cereal at coordinates 40.7654770, -2.9947316. Plan shaped as a 10×10 square meter. Border built with blue carpet made of waste materials.

Atlas (Brazil, 2012, 6:12) – Magda Gebhardt
Magda, like Atlas, carries the world on her back, caught in a performance of construction and destruction of landscapes, whose space and time references are continually redefined. Magda Gebhardt’s work allows an analogy between landscape and image, two human creations whose artifacts lead to their own creation. This is how the artist gains prominence, in the role of someone who looks and observes – a place from which visions of the world are organized and distributed.

Round and About (USA, 1979-80, 4:45) – Gary Hill
Around & About came out of a ‘what if’ scenario. What if I were to cut images to every syllable of a spoken text? (A way to keep me busy?) A daunting task in the time of U-matic machines and sloppy controllers. I did it all manually, hitting the edit button for every syllable. With each rewind I would listen and anticipate the coming syllable, learning as I went along to adjust for delayed reaction. I learned quickly—every ‘mistake’ was a step forward and one or more back. Rather quickly I wrote — I could almost say scribbled — a text, driven by a personal relationship breakup, yet, more to the point, directed to an abstract other; that is, someone a viewer could identify with.
Decision of No Return or A sense of territory (Germany/Spain, 2017, 8:08) – Christina Schultz
The video is made of 49 different sources featuring famous British detective television characters who investigate on a disturbing case, the decision of the British referendum of 23 of june 2016 to exit the European Union. The literary characters are Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, The Famous Five, James Bond, John Steed and Emma Peel, Monsieur Poirot, Mrs. Jessica Fletcher, Marlowe and Colombo as exceptions being either Belgium or American but born from British authors. The selection was made according to childhood heroes of the artist and the music is a hommage to ‘Why can’t we live together’ by Timmy Thomas made in collaboration with Mirim Casal Madinabeita.
