Este trabalho em vídeo e fotografia remete para e homenageia a cena final do filme “Nostalgia” do realizador russo Andrej Tarkovsky, em que o protagonista tenta salvar o mundo atravessando o tanque vazio das termas de Bagni Vignoni em Itália, e que, quando o finalmente consegue, sofre um colapso e morre. Entre os sons do parque do Terra Nostra, na ilha de São Miguel, escutamos frases de um poema de Arseny Tarkovsky, o pai do realizador, na sua língua original, porque, como diz o protagonista do filme, não se pode entender a poesia através de uma tradução. Esta fotografia expandida foi filmada pouco antes da pandemia, numa renovada tentativa de salvar o mundo e, nunca saberemos, o seu efeito concreto no que veio a suceder pelo mundo fora.

This video and photography work referes to and pays homage to the final scene of the film “Nostalgia” by the Russian Director Andrej Tarkovsky, in which the protagonist tries to save the world by crossing the empty tank of the Bagni Vignoni spa in Italy and, when he finally succeeds, collapses and dies. Among the sounds of the Terra Nostra park on the island of São Miguel, we listen to phrases from a poem by Arseny Tarkovsky, the Director´s father, in its original language because, as the film´s protagonist says, poetry cannot be understood through translation. This expanded photograph was filmed not long after the pandemic in a renewed attempt to save the world, and we will never know its concrete effect on what came after throughout the world.
