O Laboratório Imagem em Movimento é o programa de residência criativa do FUSO INSULAR que acontece entre os meses de julho e setembro na ilha de São Miguel.
O propósito do Laboratório Imagem em Movimento é dar oportunidade às pessoas que vivem nos Açores e que têm interesse nas artes cinematográficas, sejam elas artistas ou não, de realizarem os seus projetos em vídeos, munindo-as de conteúdos e referências e apoiando-as no desenvolvimento e concretização dos trabalhos. Desta forma, o Fuso Insular procura também contribuir para suprir uma lacuna existente no panorama artístico do Arquipélago dos Açores, no que diz respeito à formação e ao conhecimento na área da imagem em movimento.
Na sua 3ª edição, António Braga, Cristiana Branquinho, Filipe Freitas, Gabriela Oliveira, Inês Vieira, John Tokumei, Laura Brasil e Marco Machado tiveram a oportunidade de aprofundar os seus conhecimentos sobre a história do cinema e da videoarte e criar seus próprios filmes, sob orientação dos artistas Yuri Firmeza e André Laranjinha. As inquietações emocionais, a sensação de (não)pertença, a crescente ocupação do território açoriano e o uso da tecnologia disponível nos meios digitais misturam-se em experimentações visuais e sonoras, que fazem desta sessão um verdadeiro tubo de ensaio.
Não sabemos o que se segue. Mas fica a certeza de que cada participante do Laboratório Imagem em Movimento leva consigo o gosto por contar uma estória e partilhar com o público os seus sonhos e desejos.
AINDA ESTOU AQUI – Laura Brasil
“ainda estou aqui” é um filme ensaio sobre a nossa existência, sobre a capacidade de continuarmos vivos, de não desistirmos. Fala-nos da dificuldade de viver com doença mental e do pensamento suicida que atravessa a mente de quem a vive. É um diário focado no quotidiano, nos sonhos e nas perdas. Escrito com imagens íntimas e sons destemidos e narrado na primeira pessoa do singular.
HORTUS – Cristiana Branquinho
Do meu jardim surgem memórias, memórias felizes, memórias tristes. Quando penso nelas lá está ele… o único sítio onde o posso voltar a ver.
IN SEARCH – Filipe Freitas
A terra ao fim de milhares de anos ficou desabitada por causa da poluição e a humanidade mudou de casa para outro planeta que acabou por não ter qualquer tipo de liberdade. O filme mostra uma procura pela liberdade e algo melhor.
INSULAR – António Braga
O sentimento de ser-se na ilha e/ou a própria ilha. Uma declaração de amor que pensa o lugar de relação entre aquele (ou aquilo) que habita e aquilo (ou aquele) que é habitado. Sou eu quem habita a ilha? É a ilha que habita em mim?
IRON TOMB – John Tokumei
A grande maioria acha que os homens mais ricos do mundo são os donos das grandes empresas. Eu discordo. É quem reside no palácio escondido, aquele que se banha em rios de ouro.
iron tomb: a história de um César da era moderna; de uma conspiração entre um estado e o crime;
um conto megalómano estritamente baseado no mundo em que fingimos não viver.
ITINERÁRIO – Gabriela Oliveira
Numa altura em que o turismo nos ocupa e preocupa e que a a massificação das viagens é contestada um pouco por todo o mundo, Itinerário conta a história de um grupo de turistas que não consegue desembarcar de si próprio.
NOTHING AND NOT MUCH (NADA E MUITO POUCO) – Marco Machado
Graças às observações iniciadas por Edwin P. Hubble sobre o afastamento das galáxias a uma velocidade proporcional à sua distância, pode-se estabelecer que num dado momento toda a matéria do universo estava concentrada num único ponto. Naturalmente, estávamos todos lá.
À medida que nos expandimos no espaço e no tempo, a nossa realidade e as nossas opções tornam-se, aparentemente, mais complexas.
O MEU DESPEJO – Inês Vieira
Após três anos a acumular imensa raiva, tristeza e inveja, esses sentimentos direccionados à sua terra natal, são todos despejados numa carta de despedida.

MOVING IMAGE LABORTORY

The Moving Image Laboratory is the creative residency program of FUSO INSULAR that takes place between the months of July and September on the island of São Miguel.
The Moving Image Laboratory wants to give opportunities to people living in the Azores, artists or not, who are interested in the cinematic arts, to carry out their projects in video, providing them with content and references and supporting them in the development and completion of their work. In this way, FUSO INSULAR also seeks to contribute to overcoming an existing gap in the artistic panorama of the Azores, with regard to training and knowledge in the area of the moving image.
In its 3rd edition, the participants António Braga, Cristiana Branquinho, Filipe Freitas, Gabriela Oliveira, Inês Vieira, John Tokumei, Laura Brasil and Marco Machado had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the history of cinema and of video art, and to create their own films, under the guidance of artists Yuri Firmeza and André Laranjinha.
The emotional restlessness, the feeling of (non)belonging, the increasing occupation of the Azorean territory by tourism and the use of the technology available in digital media are combined in visual and sound experiments, with the present screening being itself a true test-tube experiment.
We don’t know what comes next, but one thing we know for certain; that each and all participants in the Moving Image Laboratory carry with them the taste to tell a story and share with the public their dreams and desires.
I’M STILL HERE – Laura Brasil
Ainda estou aqui (I’m still here) is a film essay about our existence, about our capacity to stay alive, and not give up. It addresses the difficulty of living with mental illness and the suicidal thoughts that cross the mind of those who live it. Ainda estou aqui is a diary about everyday life, about our dreams and losses, written from intimate images and fearless sounds, and narrated in the first person singular.

Memories spring from my garden, happy memories, sad memories. When I think of them there it is… the only place where I can see them again.
IN SEARCH – Filipe Freitas
Thousands of years from now, Earth became uninhabitable because of pollution, and so humanity moved from home to another planet, where freedom was nonexistent.
The film is about the search for liberty and for something better.
INSULAR – António Braga
The feeling of being an island, and/or being the island itself. A declaration of love to the relationship between these (or those) who inhabit the island, or is inhabited by it.
Is it me who lives on the island? Or is it the island that lives within me?
IRON TOMB – John Tokumei
The vast majority of people think that the richest men in the world own the major companies. I disagree. It is the one who resides in the hidden palace, the one who bathes in rivers of gold.
iron tomb: the story of a modern-day Caesar; of a conspiracy between a state and crime; a megalomaniac tale strictly based on the world we pretend not to live in.
ITINERARY – Gabriela Oliveira
At a time when tourism engulfs and worries us, and massification is contested all over the world, Itinerary tells the story of a group of tourists who cannot disembark from their inner self.
NOTHING AND NOT MUCH – Marco Machado
Thanks to his observations, Edwin P. Hubble determined that galaxies were receding from Earth at a rate proportional to their distance from Earth. He established that at a given moment all the matter in the universe was concentrated at a single point.
We were all there, naturally.
As we expand in space and time, our reality and our options apparently become more complex.
MY EVICTION – Inês Vieira
At the end of three years of accumulating immense anger, sadness and envy, these feelings are all poured into a farewell letter to the place where I was born.
