Vários cineastas
No âmbito da Expo Zaragoza 2008, foram convidados 11 jovens artistas portugueses cujo trabalho se estabeleceu já no século XXI.
Messages, é a recolha de ideias que incluí os temas da Expo Zaragoza 2008 (Água Fonte de Vida, A Água e as suas Paisagens, A água e o Encontro Humano, Água, Recurso Partilhado) que resulta numa obra unificada na sua homogeneidade geracional, diferenciando-se na expressão artística e estética.
Este projeto composto por 11 curtas-metragens, será apresentado pelos seus realizadores.

STILL LIFE | André Gonçalves
Still Life pretende ser um retrato do algoritmo “Game of Life” de John Conway, uma interpretação metafórica que através da substituição de processos matemáticos por processos físicos recria e documenta, através de imagens, um sistema que pode ser encarado como um sistema social em mutação no qual a alteração de pequenas variáveis podem alterar drasticamente o comportamento e reação de todo o sistema. Com base na utilização de um fluido não-newtoniano, fluidos que não têm uma viscosidade constante, representando a condição humana, e que através de frequências sub-graves, frequências sonoras abaixo da perceção auditiva humana, como elemento representante de toda a informação quase subliminar à qual somos expostos diariamente, e como através do segundo elemento o primeiro é excitado para formar padrões que reagem em ressonância com as frequências utilizadas. Uma caricatura de um sistema comportamental em que a informação criada pelo sistema tem por interesse excitar e conduzir à concretização de determinadas ações que alimentam o próprio sistema.

Todos os fins-de-semana, as Termas de Luso enchem-se de pessoas, carregadas de garrafões de plástico, em busca da água que corre das bicas gratuitamente. Apesar da área da nascente se encontrar em obras, obrigando as pessoas a desenhar percursos incómodos no meio da convulsão, a água abundante continua a ser irresistível. Num cenário que se pode crer de pós-catástrofe, a peregrinação incessante parece assumir um carácter visualmente esclarecedor de um futuro não tão distante, da água como um bem escasso e precioso. No entanto, aqui, a “fonte santa” corre ainda ininterruptamente, um sinal inequívoco para os “peregrinos” da bondade da Natureza ou da graça divina.
IMERGÊNCIA | Cláudia Varejão
Imergência; urgência de imergir num lugar seguro, mergulhar, entrar, adormecer.
Este filme explora a ideia de (re)encontro do corpo através da sua relação com a água. A ausência de ar é a única forma de respirar, um golpe de ar no peito obriga a novas referências físicas e no espaço que estabelecem um confronto entre o possível e o impossível, entre resistir e aceitar, entre querer e não querer, entre o real e a ficção. É essa dissonância constante, imposta pela complexidade do momento histórico que ocupamos que apela a um regresso urgente à origem. Imergência, é uma causa natural.

Haverá sempre um trauma que me ligará a ti. E hoje. Treze anos depois. Hoje posso aproximar-me do mar sem teres que me dar a mão ou levares-me aos ombros. Posso ver refletida nele uma paisagem de fracassos que reconheço e a que me dedico repetidamente.

As part of Expo Zaragoza 2008, 11 young Portuguese artists were invited whose work is already established in the twenty-first century.
Messages is a collection of ideas that include the themes of Expo Zaragoza 2008 (Water for Life, Water and its Landscapes, Water and Human Encounter, Water, Shared Resource), which results in a unified work on generational uniformity, differentiating itself in the artistic expression and aesthetics.
This project, composed of 11 short films, will be presented by its directors.

STILL LIFE | André Gonçalves
Still Life is intended to be a portrait of John Conway’s “Game of Life” algorithm, a metaphorical interpretation that through the substitution of mathematical processes for physical processes recreates and documents, through images, a system that can be regarded as a changing social system in which the change of small variables can drastically alter the behavior and reaction of the whole system. Based on the use of a non-Newtonian fluid, fluids that do not have a constant viscosity, representing the human condition, and that through sub-bass frequencies, sound frequencies below human auditory perception, as a representative element of almost all the subliminal information to which we are exposed daily, and as through the second element the first is excited to form patterns that react in resonance with the frequencies used. A caricature of a behavioral system in which the information created by the system has the intent to excite and lead to the concretization of certain actions which feed the system itself.

Every weekend, the Luso spas fills with people, with their plastic bottles, in search of the water that flows for free from the fountains. Although the area of the source is under construction, forcing people to draw uncomfortable pathways in the midst of the convulsion, the abundant water remains irresistible. In a post-catastrophe scenario, the incessant pilgrimage seems to assume a visually enlightening character of a not-so-distant future, of water as a scarce and precious resource. Here, however, the “holy fountain” still flows uninterruptedly, an unmistakable sign to the “pilgrims” of the goodness of Nature or divine grace.

Immersion; urgency to immerse yourself in a safe place, to dive, to enter, to fall asleep.
This film explores the idea of (re)encounter with the body through its relationship with water. The absence of air is the only way to breathe, an air strike in the chest requires new physical and space references which establish a confrontation between the possible and the impossible, between resisting and accepting, between wanting and not wanting, between the real and fiction. It is this constant dissonance, imposed by the complexity of the historical moment we occupy that calls for an urgent return to the origin. Immersion is a natural cause.

There will always be a trauma that will bind me to you. And today. Thirteen years later. Today I can approach the sea without you having to take my hand or carry me on your shoulders. I can see reflected in it a landscape of failures that I recognize and to whom I dedicate myself repeatedly.
