“CINEMATOGRAFIA – TEATRALIDADE #2”

O cinema à volta de cinco artes, Cinco artes à volta do cinema

English

“CINEMATOGRAFIA – TEATRALIDADE #2”

O cinema à volta de cinco artes, Cinco artes à volta do cinema

“The Cinema Around the Five Arts, Five Arts Around the Cinema” program of Temps d’Images Festival which questions cinema and its relationship with the other arts, enters this year in its fourth edition. After two years where the relation between cinematography/choreography was approached, we started in 2009 a new cycle that questions the relations between cinema and theater. The films presented this year will still be watched and commented on from the point of view of theatricality. The main themes approach the representation (from the real to the imaginary), the metamorphosis, the mask, the space as a scene, the frontality, the relationships in closed spaces-open spaces, etc.

The program will feature Pierre Léon’s films (with an absolute premiere of his film Biette and a new version of Oncle Vania where Jean-Claude Biette plays the main character – a Portuguese premiere), Jean Marie Straub (with two Portuguese premieres), Philippe Lafosse (a film with Jean-Marie Straub – also a Portuguese premiere), Christine Laurent, Adolphe Arrieta, Eric Rohmer, Jacques Rivette, John Ford, João Cesar Monteiro, Georges Franju, Orson Welles, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Ritwick Ghatak, Fei Mu (with a film of 1940 recently rediscovered and restored – a Portuguese premiere) and many others.

Like in previous editions, it is the relationship between the chosen films, the catalog, consisting of largely original texts, and the encounter with the texts’ authors, directors, critics, authors, etc., which forms the basis and the subject that distinguishes this program.

The cycle opens on November 2 with the rare film Dreams, a short film by Evgeni Bauer (1915) and The Immortal Story, by Orson Welles, and will continue until November 11, daily at the Cinemateca Portuguesa with the presence of its participants. Pierre Léon, Cyril Neyrat, Bernard Eisenchitz, Christine Laurent, Luís Miguel Cintra, Diogo Dória, Philipe Lafosse, Marcos Uzal and Renaud Legrand will be with us to present the films and discuss them with Portuguese filmmakers, directors and authors.

This program, organized and coordinated by Pierre-Marie Goulet, Teresa Garcia and Ricardo Matos Cabo, is held in partnership with the Cinemateca Portuguesa.
