O FUSO é, desde 2009, o único festival de vídeo arte que decorre ao ar livre em Lisboa, em espaços singulares como jardins e claustros de museus. Com entrada livre, durante seis noites o festival recebe artistas, curadores, público em geral, instituições portuguesas envolvidas nesta práctica artística e ainda especialistas e responsáveis por colecções internacionais.
Uma programação de excelência propõe novas perspectivas da vídeo arte, revelando autores e obras contemporâneas, mas também apresentando peças históricas raramente ou nunca vistas em Portugal. Ao expor cruzamentos com linguagens de filme experimental, da performance, da fotografia e do cinema, o FUSO traz uma nova abertura à imagem em movimento do século XXI.
Uma competição nacional encoraja criadores e artistas a desenvolver propostas e a apresentá-las, através de um open call, decorrendo a atribuição ao vencedor de um prémio de aquisição pela colecção da Fundação EDP.
Ao fomentar o pensamento crítico em torno dos novos meios e promover o enriquecimento do conhecimento e divulgação da arte em vídeo no panorama português, o FUSO contribui de forma significativa para a dinâmica da arte contemporânea nacional.
Sustentabilidade é o mote do FUSO 2019, entendido como o respeito ao meio ambiente, à diversidade cultural e social e a um crescimento económico justo e consequente.
No mundo actual, as evidências científicas sobre o aquecimento global são desacreditadas por governos de países em que a extrema-direita ascende ao poder, posicionando-se contrariamente aos direitos de minorias e a acordos internacionais de livre circulação de ideias e de pessoas. O campo da arte tem-se questionado sobre o seu papel e sobre novas posturas pertinentes diante destes desafios. Quais as mudanças de atitude e de funcionamento seriam propícias por parte dos artistas, curadores, críticos, galeristas e coleccionadores, nos seus aspectos individuais e institucionais?
O FUSO olha para o futuro a partir do que pode ser feito no presente.

About
Created in 2009, FUSO is the only open-air video art festival in Lisbon, in unique spaces such as gardens and museum cloisters. With free admission and over six nights, the festival welcomes artists, curators, the general public, Portuguese institutions involved in this artistic practice and also specialists and holders of international collections.
A program of excellence proposes new perspectives on video art, revealing authors and contemporary works, but also presenting historical pieces rarely or never seen in Portugal. By exposing the relationship between experimental film languages, performance, photography and cinema, FUSO brings a new awareness to the moving image of the 21st century.
A national competition encourages creators and artists to develop proposals and present them through an open call, awarding the winner with the acquisition prize by the collection of MAAT/EDP Foundation.
By fostering critical thinking around new media and promoting the enrichment of knowledge and dissemination of video art in the Portuguese panorama, FUSO contributes significantly to the dynamics of contemporary national art.
Sustainability is the motto of FUSO 2019, understood as the respect for the environment and cultural and social diversity, within a righteous and consequent economic growth.
In today’s world, scientific evidence on global warming is discredited by governments in countries where the far-right ascended to power, positioning themselves against the minority’s rights and international agreements on the free movement of both people and ideas. The art field has been wondering about its role while searching for new relevant postures to face these challenges. What changes of attitude and functioning would be suitable to artists, curators, art critics, gallery owners and collectors in their individual and institutional aspects?
FUSO gazes into the future from what can be done in the present time.
