Exemplos de percursos pelos vários títulos da coleção anarchive, arquivos digitais de arte contemporânea, serão apresentados, com destaque para alguns filmes e vídeos feitos por artistas presentes nesta coleção. Cada anarchive é uma monografia gráfica interativa singular: DVD-ROM ou site, por vezes acompanhado de um livro ou um DVD.

VIRTUAL SPACES: New Works from the EAI Collection

Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), instituição sem fins lucrativos com sede em Nova Iorque, detém uma extensa coleção de vídeo e obras de media digital. A coleção abrange a década de 1960 até ao presente, e inclui trabalhos seminais de artistas, pioneiros da imagem em movimento até às obras de novas gerações.
Este programa apresenta uma seleção de obras recentemente adicionadas à coleção EAI, onde os artistas exploram ideias sobre arquitetura e espaço, a partir de significados culturais e políticos nas interações físicas dos indivíduos. Os artistas utilizam vídeo e meios digitais para examinar ou transformar os ambientes arquitetónicos – um templo budista, um condomínio fechado, um interior doméstico – bem como os ambientes audiovisuais, cinematográficos e espaços digitais. O programa termina com uma obra recente na coleção de EAI: filmes e trabalhos em vídeos do lendário bailarino/coreógrafo Merce Cunningham. Filmada na Catedral de St. John the Divine, em Nova Iorque, esta peça de Cunningham e do cineasta Charles Atlas foi coreografada para a câmara..

A journey through the anarchive collection, contemporary digital art archives, will be presented, highlighting some films and videos made by artists belonging to this collection. Each anarchive is a unique interactive graphic monograph: DVD-ROM or website, sometimes accompanied by a book or a DVD.

VIRTUAL SPACES: New Works from the EAI Collection

Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), a New York-based nonprofit institution, holds one of the most extensive collections of video and digital media artworks. The collection goes from the 60s to the present, from seminal works by pioneering video artists to moving-image works by new generations of artists.
This program features a selection of new works that have recently been added to the EAI collection, in which artists explore ideas of architecture and space, from cultural and political meanings to the physical interactions of individuals. The artists use video and digital media to examine or transform actual architectural environments – a Buddhist monastery, a gated community, a domestic interior – as well as televisual, cinematic, and digital spaces. The program ends with an earlier piece from a major body of work that recently came into EAI’s collection: The film and video works of legendary dancer/choreographer Merce Cunningham. Shot in the soaring space of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York, this dance collaboration between Cunningham and filmmaker Charles Atlas was choreographed specifically for the camera.
