Gabriela Golder, Domestico, Argentina, 2007, DV Pal, 1’30’’

Mulheres a partir pratos tentando fazer o máximo barulho possível. Uma polifonia requintada. Exigir a palavra, fazer barulho, dizer “basta”.

Sabine Massenet, The End

Sabine Massenet, Bande Annonce, 2009, DV Pal, 4’17’’

Sabine Massenet, Last Dance, França, 2009, DV Pal, versão monocanal, 6’

Total running time 39’03’’

Laëtitia Bourget, L’Eveil, France, 2008, HD, 10’

A crayfish quest for her survival, the unpredictable death of a beloved one, the love meeting of a man and a woman, the waves’ foam, the breath of the air, the leaves singing, the weight of the past and the awakening of a new life.

Gabriela Golder, Domestico, Argentina, 2007, DV Pal, 1’30’’

Women breaking dishes, excited. Women trying to generate the greater noise possible. An exquisite polyphony. To request the word, to make noise, to say “it is enough”. Fatigue, submission and liberation. The act of breaking dishes proposes the destruction of preconceptions on the relation that can be settle down between the woman and the domestic.

Gabriela Golder, La Logica de la Supervivencia, Argentina, 2008, DV Pal, 6’

Or the execution of a failure project. A multitude of people rush for food, they are uncontrolled. A young man is brutally repressed. Only three scenes conform this video. Everything is part of the same, the failure of any project of reconstruction.

Sabine Massenet, The End

“Under this broad title are gathered three short videos made from the same films, mainstream American thrillers of which I only kept the gunfights scenes. In recent films, these scenes of extreme violence are characterized by a disjointed succession of very short shots: gunshots, bullet impacts on different parts of the set, characters hit, blood spurts, bodies followed by the camera during their fall (sometimes in slow-motion, the only moment when death is stylized). The extreme speed of the editing cancels any understanding of the facts and acts as a visual and sound charge which directly targets the viewer’s senses. He becomes almost blind and deaf. The four videos form a sort of catalogue of the different types of shots previously mentioned. The deconstruction and reconstruction of these shots make sense when presented in an installation which play with time and space, also working on a sequential scheme when screened on single-channel video.”

Sabine Massenet, Bande Annonce, 2009, DV Pal, 4’17’’

The first one of the series. Only the short shots showing bullet impacts on the doors, the furniture, the lamps, the windows were kept. The bodies hit and wounded are not enough to satisfy the need for destruction of the avenging and deadly hero, therefore the whole world becomes an object of massacre.

Sabine Massenet, Last Dance, France, 2009, DV Pal, single-channel version, 6’

“Death is a woman
Who dances with love
This eternal tango
In which each one in turn
Tilts his partner
This eternal, this eternal, this eternal tango
Can blow your mind
Or send you six feet under
Under”
Louise Forestier, The tango of Love and Death
The bodies are falling in a frenetic and repetitive movements, to the sound of a brisk tango (a milonga by Francisco Canaro). I tenderly execute the American commercial cinema, and enjoy its collapse.
The version displayed for installation is silent and played in slow-motion.

Sabine Massenet, Fire, France, 2009, DV Pal, 1’16’’
The image targets the eye until blindness.

Noëmi Sjöberg, Besós River, Spain, 2009, DV Pal, 10’
This video documents a 30 minutes live video and sound performance together with the musician and artist Juan Matos Capote. Audio and visual field recordings of the Besós River in Barcelona (Spain). This is a place where nature and industry meet and mingle.
