“APAGÃO”

Na passagem para o século XX, um teatro escuro poderia ter sido chamado de “wagneriano”, referenciando o compositor alemão Richard Wagner. Foi para criar uma maior atenção ao que se passava em cena perante os olhos do espectador que Wagner escureceu a plateia, através dos avanços elétricos nas luzes para teatro, evitando assim que o libreto da ópera fosse lido e consultado durante a récita. Esta escuridão permitiu uma maior imersão do público no espetáculo e a exploração de efeitos óticos e ilusões que deram origem ao teatro negro, que explorava o desaparecimento de corpos e objetos sobre um fundo negro que enganava o olhar. Antes disso, o teatro era um espaço para ver e ser visto, dois objetivos que muitas vezes estavam em conflito. Em APAGÃO queremos não só retirar a luz da plateia – como fez Wagner – mas também a do palco que tradicionalmente se ilumina perante o espectador.

“APAGÃO”

In the turn of the twentieth century, a dark theater could have been called “Wagnerian”, referencing the German composer Richard Wagner. It was meant to give a closer attention to what was happening on the scene before the viewer’s eyes that Wagner darkened the audience through the electric advances in theater lights, thus preventing the opera libretto from being read and consulted during the recital. This darkness allowed a greater immersion of the public in the show and the exploration of optical effects and illusions – giving rise to the black theater concept – which explored the disappearance of bodies and objects on a black background while deceiving the viewer’s vision. Before that, the theater was a space just to see and be seen, two goals that were often in conflict. In APAGÃO we want not only to remove the light from the audience – as Wagner did – but also from the stage that traditionally illuminates itself before the viewer.
