Utopia.doc é um documento político sobre os dias de hoje. Sobre os movimentos de emigração. Sobre ser estrangeiro ou sobre querer partir, romper – real e ficcionalmente. Sobre fronteiras culturais, geográficas e humanas.
O projeto surgiu como parte da pesquisa para o espetáculo/filme E se Elas Fossem para Moscovo? e foi realizado em 2013 em três grandes centros urbanos: Paris, Frankfurt e São Paulo. Em cada uma das cidades, o projeto foi construído a partir de diferentes dispositivos, mas em todas a premissa foi a mesma: filmar encontros nas casas dos participantes. Os participantes foram convocados nas diferentes cidades através de entrevistas ou cartas em que responderam às seguintes questões:
- Conte-nos um pouco sobre si e a sua história
- Descreva a sua casa
- Porque quer abrir a sua casa a alguém desconhecido?
- Qual é a sua utopia?
- Existe algum lugar atualmente no mundo onde gostaria de estar?
- Descreva um sonho que tem acordado
- Conte-nos um sonho que teve enquanto dormia
Participaram no filme, e pelas três cidades, pessoas das mais diversas partes do mundo: Irão, Paquistão, Afeganistão, Iraque, Mali, Congo, Rússia, Índia, Japão, Colômbia, Inglaterra, França, Argélia, Suíça, Haiti, Alemanha e Brasil. Em Paris, artistas criaram performances em resposta às cartas e realizaram essas performances na casa dos imigrantes participantes. Em Frankfurt, quem respondeu às cartas foram importantes escritores da literatura brasileira, que escreveram textos inéditos e leram na casa das pessoas que haviam escrito as cartas que inspiraram os textos. Em São Paulo, os próprios imigrantes respondiam à carta de outro imigrante. Em cada lugar os encontros entre as pessoas, que se viam pela primeira vez na casa de um deles, gerou diálogos profundos e emocionantes sobre histórias pessoais e sobre o mundo hoje.
O documentário mostra essa viagem pelas casas, pelos encontros, pelas memórias e criações, numa espécie de utopia de um mundo sem fronteiras.

Utopia.doc is a political report about the world we live in today. About migratory movements. About being foreigner or about wanting to leave, to break away – in reality and fiction. About cultural, geographical and human borders.
The project came about as part of the research carried out for the performance/film What if They Went to Moscow? and it was produced in 2013 in three big urban centres: Paris, Frankfurt and Sao Paulo. In each of these cities, the project was built from different components, but in all of them the premise was the same: film encounters in the homes of the participants. The participants were selected in different cities through interviews or from letters in which they answered the following questions:
- Tell us a bit about yourself and your story
- Describe your home
- Why do you want to open your home to a stranger?
- What is your utopia?
- Is there a somewhere in the world right now where you would like to be?
- Describe a daydream that you have
- Tell us about a dream you’ve had while sleeping
In the three cities, the film’s participants came from all corners of the globe: Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Mali, Congo, Russia, India, Japan, Colombia, England, France, Algeria, Switzerland, Haiti, Germany and Brazil. In Paris, artists created performances in response to the letters and performed them in the homes of the participating immigrants. In Frankfurt, those who responded to the letters were important writers of Brazilian literature, who wrote original texts, which they read in the homes of the people who had written the letters that inspired them. In Sao Paulo, the immigrants themselves responded to the letters of other immigrants. In each place the encounters between people, who saw each other for the first time in one of their houses, generated profound and emotional conversations about personal stories and about today’s world.
The documentary shows this journey through homes, through encounters, through memories and creations, in a kind of utopia of a world without borders.
